The island of Lefkada, is on the west coast of Greece, one of the seven Ionian islands rich in history and age-old tradition. Here, it is believed that Homer set the "Odyssey" and it was there that the poetess Sappho had her unfortunate love affair with Phaon, ending with her leap from one of the island's white cliffs where the temple of Apollo stood, and where nature can be seen in all its beauty.
It is unique amongst the other islands because is separated from the mainland of Greece by a 25m channel with a movable swing bridge that carries a road, thus easily connected with the main road nets to the airport (18 km), Preveza (21km), other major cities and Athens (360km).

Lefkas town
With its own unique architecture found everywhere in the main Doerpfeld street and the side streets. Τhere is a very interesting collection to be found in the archaeological museum, as well as a precious post byzantine art picture gallery in the building of the public library. There are wonderful old churches including: Aghios Spiridonas, Agh. Nikolaos, Pantokratoras, Agh. Minas etc. with unique pieces of woodcarving & icons.

Karya & the central highlands (where the mill is situated)
The main mountain area of the island. It keeps all the secrets of the real life of Lefkada. Karya is famous for the embroideries, the local dresses, the rugs and the traditional wedding revival on the 11th of August each year.

  • In tha main square in "Karya" try "Eleni's" restaurant for excellent local

 

         cusine.

 

  • In "Eglouvi" try the "Litrata" restaurant, with the famous lentil recipes.

 

  • "The plane tree" restaurant in "Vafkeri" serves excellent meat on the charcoal.

 

  • At the small village of "Kolivata" you will find "Maria's place" for excellent pies and homemade food.
